Watercolor Florals with Gold Accents

As card makers, we sometimes have to make cards for occasions that aren’t joyous or celebratory. When someone you know experiences a loss, you hope to provide just a little bit of comfort with the card you make and the condolences you give. Today, I’m sharing one of those cards.
Using floral stamps and dies from Simon Says Stamp, I created this simple yet elegant sympathy card. I paired Zig Clean Color Real Brush watercolor pens with heat embossed images, one of my favorite techniques. Here, I used gold embossing powder which is always so beautiful.
For the rest of the card design, I incorporated a sentiment that I hot foiled in gold, some gold pigment ink rubbed along a deckled edge, and a few gold embellishments. After planning the design of this beautiful sympathy card, it came together quickly. I’ve listed all the details below. Thanks for stopping by today!

STEPS

1.) I started with stamping and heat embossing in gold, the floral and greenery on mixed media paper. Using my Zigs, I colored in the images. For color blending, I used 5 colors for the flowers and 3 colors for the greenery. After coloring, I let them dry for a bit before die cutting everything.

2.) For the background, I started with two navy card panels. One I left at 4 1/4 x 5 1/2″ and the other I die cut with a large deckle-edged frame. Then, using a gold pigment ink pad, I rubbed the deckled edges across the surface to get a soft, almost gold leaf effect. I glued this panel directly to the other full-size card panel.

3.) Next, I hot foiled with gold foil the, “Thinking of You” sentiment on the same navy cardstock and then die cut it with the coordinating die. After laying out the elements for placement on the deckle card panel, I heat embossed the, “with sympathy” sentiment with gold embossing powder.

4.) Lastly, I attached all the elements with glue and thin foam squares where any overlapping created overhang of a die cut that needed extra support. For just a little dimension, I also used thin foam squares for the large sentiment. Adding gold nailhead embellishments finished the card.
