A Frosty, Full Panel Shaker Card

Hi Friends! Today, I’m sharing this full panel shaker card with the cutest shaker embellishment mix from This Calls For Confetti. I fell in love with this wintery mix as soon as I saw it on Simon Says Stamp. And in real life, it has so much more sparkle than most mixes. I think it’s because of what they call, gold tinsel sequins. It’s so pretty, pictures just don’t do it justice.

I actually designed this card around the confetti, choosing Hero Arts Cornflower Core Ink and some shimmery accents, like adding Frozen Fog Mica Stain to the background and a sparkly navy embossing powder from Simon Says Stamp for the sentiment. The Pine Needle Frame is from Memory Box and I used it not only as the frame but as a stencil for the background as well, giving me the white silhouette of pine needles.

This card came together super fast and is easy to construct. All the steps and supplies are listed below. Thanks for visiting and happy crafting!

STEPS

1.) Stamp the sentiment with clear embossing and watermark ink in the center of an A2 white card panel. Then heat emboss with navy embossing powder.

2.) Die cut the Pine Needle Frame, twice, from white, heavyweight cardstock. Use one for a stencil to create the background with Hero Arts Cornflower Ink. I just held mine in place while I used a large blending brush to pounce ink onto the panel, concentrating the color on the perimeter and leaving the center white. If needed, a little removable adhesive, from a tape runner or something like Pixie Spray, would help hold the stencil frame in place while applying the ink. I wasn’t worried about the frame shifting a little and things being imperfect. I thought it helped with the frosty, wintry look I was trying to achieve. Discard this stencil frame or save it for another project.

3.) Mask the sentiment area with some scrap cardstock and lightly spray Frozen Fog Mica Stain onto the panel. It gives the background and pine silhouettes a beautiful shimmer.

4.) Ink the other Pine Needle Frame with green inks, using a pouncing motion again, and leaving some areas white. I also used a sea sponge to lightly apply some of the darker green. I used Distress Inks in Bundled Sage and Rustic Wilderness. Then, to give more of a frosty appearance, I used a toothbrush and thinned white gouache paint to splatter a little snow.

5.) Die cut a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ reverse scalloped frame from white cardstock and ink with a blending brush and the same Hero Arts Cornflower Ink. Attach the green Pine Needle Frame to the backside of the scallop frame with liquid adhesive. Then, attach a piece of acetate, just slightly smaller than 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, to the backside of the pine needle and scallop frames, with thin double-sided tape.

6.) Construct the shaker card. Attach 1/8″ foam strips to the perimeter of the acetate, making the walls of the shaker. Keep the foam strips behind the scallop frame and don’t leave any gaps for the shaker material to fall out. I like to run an anti-static tool around the edges of the foam strips, with the release papers still on, to help keep the shaker material from sticking too much to the sides. To aid in proper alignment of the frames and the background panel, place the frames with the acetate piece in the corner of a Misti stamping tool without the foam or paper pad. Add shaker material inside the area of the foam strips. Remove the release paper. Now, place the background panel into the same corner of the Misti and press the panel onto the foam strips. Everything should be aligned perfectly!
