A Pretty Pink Posh Slimline Valentine Shaker

I couldn’t help making one more Valentine’s Day card, and I’m sure most of you aren’t surprised that it’s a shaker card. I’ve been having so much fun creating projects with the new 10th Birthday release from Pretty Pink Posh 💕, and I wanted to share something that highlighted the versatility of this release. I thought the new Party Balloons could easily do double duty and make an awesome Valentine’s Day card. ❤️🩷🤍

I love the idea of a big bouquet of balloons to celebrate a special occasion, especially a bunch of shiny, glittery, heart-shaped balloons like these. And, to sweeten the bunch, I added those Sweetheart Shaker Beads that I just can’t get enough of to the shaker balloons. And, by looking at the pictures, I see that I must really not want to part with them, lol. I should have filled those balloon shakers a little fuller.

I have my bouquet floating on a Slimline Scallop Frame, inked in the softest, prettiest pink there is, Distress Ink Spun Sugar. For some interest, I splattered the background with a trio of Winterberry Mica Stain, Lumberjack Plaid, and white gouache. A sentiment from the Valentine Wreath Stamp Set and a sprinkling of Cherry Red Pearls finish up my last Valentine’s Day project of the season. I hope you’re inspired to find the things that can play double duty in your crafty stash. Thanks for stopping by friends! Now, bring on the spring crafting!

STEPS

1.) Cut two pieces of white cardstock to 3 1/4 x 8 1/2 slimline panels, panel A and panel B. Panel A will be inked and splattered. Panel B will be used for the shaker assembly. Set panel B aside.
2.)Die cut the largest Slimline Scallop Frame from white cardstock. Ink panel A and the frame with Spun Sugar Distress Oxide ink.
3.) Splatter both pieces with Winterberry Mica Stain, thinned Lumberjack Plaid Distress Ink, and thinned white gouache paint. Let dry.
4.) Glue the frame to panel A.
5.) Die cut the round and heart-shaped balloons from a variety of metallic and foiled cardstocks, and glitter paper. I used five heart balloons and 3 round balloons. The round balloons will be the background to the shaker windows.
6.) Temporarily arrange the balloons on panel A without securing. This is just to see placement. Lightly mark with a pencil where the round balloon shakers will be and then die cut each balloon, leaving the negative space of the balloons in panel A.
7.) Use panel A as a template for the placement and gluing of the positive round balloon shapes on panel B. These will be the background to the shaker windows.
8.) On the reverse side of panel A secure pieces of acetate cut to size over the balloon spaces with double-sided tape. Then, use foam strips to outline the round balloon shapes, butting the ends together tightly, creating a well for the shaker material. Use more foam strips, or foam tape of the same thickness, to cover the rest of the reverse side of the panel.
9.) Fill the shaker wells with shaker material and remove the release paper from the foam strips and/or foam tape on panel A. Carefully place panel B on panel A, ensuring the orientation will align the balloon shapes of the shakers. I use the corner of a Misti to help align the two panels together evenly.
10.) Secure the rest of the balloons die cut from Step 5 on the front of panel A with glue and/or thin foam squares. Die cut the strings from foiled cardstock, trimming when necessary, and glue in place.
11.) Stamp the sentiment in black on white cardstock and die cut with the coordinating die. I die cut this twice and stacked them, securing with glue, for a little more weight and substance. Glue to the front of panel A. Add red pearls with liquid adhesive.
12.) Secure everything to a slimline card base. I use Simon Says Stamp card bases and needed to trim the width a bit to accommodate the Slimline Scallop Frame.
