Lawn Fawn’s Build-a-Greenhouse with a Pop-Up Frame

I’m in love with this super cute Build-a-Greenhouse set from Lawn Fawn. It comes with the most adorable accessories, and it looks amazing paired with the Flower Garden Backdrop. I knew right away that I wanted to create a sort of midsummer night scene with the greenhouse tucked into a little garden. And I wanted to give this garden scene some real dimension, so I created a pop-up frame using a technique shared by the one and only Jennifer McGuire. She has great tutorials for pretty much any interactive card feature you’re looking for. You can see an example of the technique I’m using for my project here.

To begin, I created the base for the pop-up frame. I started with a piece of blue cardstock cut to 6 1/4″ wide x 5 1/2″ tall. I scored the cardstock at 1″, 1/2″, and 1/4″ on both ends of the longer side and used a bone folder to crease the scored lines in an accordion fashion.

Next, I added a piece of Lawn Fawn’s navy Let It Shine Starry Skies patterned paper for the background and die cut some grass using the Stitched Hillside Border. Then, I die cut the Flower Garden Backdrop two times, once from a lighter green and once from a darker green. I stacked these, offsetting them a bit, for a shadow detail. I blended ink into all of these pieces for a little depth and dimension.

Then I die cut all the elements for the rest of the scene using colored cardstock, adding Distress Inks or Copic markers for shading to most of the pieces. I assembled the greenhouse using multiple die cuts that I had stacked together to create dimension without foam strips, and I added vellum for the windows. Before securing vellum to the back of the greenhouse, I tucked some of the accessory die cuts inside too.

I found some vaguely round dies in an old Lawn Fawn set that I used for the stepping stones. For the table outside the greenhouse, I trimmed it down a bit to fit the scene better.

To assemble the card, I attached the finished greenhouse and stepping stones with liquid adhesive and most of the die cut accessories with foam squares. Before adding the Flower Garden Backdrop frame to the scored accordion base, I added a couple of strips of navy Let It Shine Starry Skies cardstock to the scored fold that is visible around the frame. Then I secured the frame to the top accordion folds on the base.

Here is an example of another pop-up card I created where you can see the accordion folds.

To finish up my card, I added a gold heat embossed sentiment from Henry’s Build-a-Sentiment Stamp Set. I die cut the sentiment with a Fancy Wavy Banner and attached it with foam squares. Then I added flowers to the outside of the frame and gave all the flowers and the butterfly a little sparkle with a Wink of Stella marker.

I hope I’ve inspired you to try creating a card with an interactive feature, like this easy pop-up frame. They are so much fun to create, and they add a little something extra to the cards you give. Thanks so much for visiting today!
