Elegant Poinsettia Card Using Die-n-Stencil Combo Sets

Hello! Today I’m sharing another inspiration project I created using products from the Waffle Flower Magical Christmas release. This card features two new Die-n-Stencil sets, and I have to say, I’m obsessed! The dies can be used independently of the coloring stencils with beautiful results but the stencils eliminate the need for masks when inking the die cuts, and depending on the stencil, help create dimension with shading and highlights.
I paired the Poinsettia Frame Die-n-Stencil with the Woodgrain Die-n-Stencil to create an elegant Christmas card with plenty of shimmery gold accents and a light flurry of snow. Below you’ll find a supply list and more details about how I created this inspiration project using the new die-n-stencil sets. Let’s get started!

My first step was to create the woodgrain texture background using the die-n-stencil set. I die cut the texture plate from C9 Mushroom cardstock and then used Black Soot Distress Oxide ink for both woodgrain stencil layers. The second layer resulted in two layers of ink for a darker color than the first stencil layer, almost like a third color.

Next, I die cut the Poinsettia Frame, along with the other layering dies, from white cardstock. The layering pieces include poinsettias, leaves, and berries. I inked the die cuts using the coloring stencils and the inks listed above. For the centers of the layering poinsettias, I used a metallic gold paste to add sparkle and dimension. I chose to make the round elements in the corners into baubles by applying the metallic gold paste to these as well, but I believe they are meant to be berries, so you choose whichever you like! Finally, I arranged the frame and the layering die cuts on my woodgrain stenciled background and secured them with glue or foam squares depending on their placement and if they overlapped any other element.

With the die cuts secured on the background panel, I spattered everything with thinned white gouache paint for a snowy effect. To finish things up, I die cut the sentiment text from matte gold cardstock and the shadow piece from ivory cardstock to match the poinsettias and attached them to the center of my design. The final step was to tuck two small garlands die cut from matte gold cardstock into the poinsettias.
