My blog hop inspiration project is a set of shaker tags that feature the lovely new Heart Balloons Stamp set and their coordinating dies, as well as the dainty Doily Borders that I used to trim the edges. These shaker tags do double duty and are also sweet little top-fold cards with plenty of room inside for a personal sentiment, a poem, or whatever your heart desires!

Any other project-specific products can be found in the description below, and my favorite everyday products can be found here. Keep reading, friends, to follow along with the steps to creating these sweet Valentine shaker tags. Thanks so much for stopping by, and happy hopping!

My first step was to die cut the Stitched Duo tag from Sea Glass cardstock three times for each tag. I set one aside for the background and then die cut the window panes from the other two, snipping out the individual panes with scissors for one large window frame. This gave me one full-sized background tag and two tags with window frames.

I stenciled the full-sized background tag and just one of the window frame tags with the Layered Clouds using Lawn Fawn’s Yeti ink and the heart layer from the Layered Heart and Sprinkles set using Lawn Fawn’s Minty Fresh ink. Then I spattered the pieces with thinned white gouache paint. I let these dry before punching a hole in the tops of each one.

Next, I assembled the shaker tags by sandwiching a piece of acetate between the two window frame pieces with double-sided tape and, on the reverse side, creating a well around the window for the Sweetheart Shaker Beads with foam strips. I added foam strips to the top portion of the tags too before attaching the background tag piece.

With the shaker components completed, I got to work on the rest of the elements. I stamped and die cut two solid hearts and two balloon strings from the Heart Balloons set for each tag. I chose to do one red balloon and one pink balloon to match the shaker beads. I embellished the balloons with sprinkle decorations borrowed from the Valentine Cake Pops set and die cut them from white glitter paper. For some additional sparkle, I traced over the balloon strings with a glitter pen. Then I attached them to my shaker tags with thin foam squares and added a stamped sentiment from the Heart Balloons Stamp set. This sentiment is stacked, so you can either carefully snip it apart (gasp!) or do some creative masking to get a single line of text. Finally, I die cut the sentiment and attached it with thin foam squares before finally adding a few clay hearts that I had inked to match the red of my balloons.

My last steps were to do a partial die cutting technique to create shaped top-fold tag bases for the shakers using the Stitched Duo die. I stamped “Happy Valentine’s Day” for the sentiment inside and then attached the shakers to these bases, adding a clean, full-sized tag to the very back and Doily Borders to the bottom edges, Sea Glass for the front and white for the back. I punched holes in the tops of each before assembling and finished with hole reinforcers on the front and back before threading red and white twine through the tops of the tags.

  1. I love the heart balloons. I think the shaker tags are great. I just wish my shakers would come out the way other people’s tags do. I seem to get more on the desk/floor and on the adhesive. I’ve ruined so many. But I like the space on these tags and you did a good job.

  2. These are sooo adorable!!! I’ve never made a shaker tag but I might need to add that to my wish list for this year! I also love the colors that you used. So bright and pretty, I love the pop!
