Hi friends! It’s starting to feel downright tropical in my neck of the woods, and the view from my kitchen window looks more like a jungle than a backyard. So with Spellbinders celebrating 23 years this month, I reached for a few of their die sets to create a wild and steamy card design perfect for someone celebrating a summer birthday. Take a peek at the supplies I used and then we’ll get started!

This project is pretty straightforward. There isn’t any shading or ink blending, and there’s no partial die-cutting or complex construction. Just die-cuts and adhesive. Yay! So to start this project, I die-cut all the elements I needed from colored cardstock and then assembled the pieces. I love assembling Spellbinders die-cuts and watching them come to life because the debossing and attention to detail make it just a little more magical than most. After assembling the different elements, I got to work on the background.

I wanted my toucan to be perched high in the treetops, peering out at the tropical landscape. To achieve this, I die-cut a mountain and a forest canopy using basic dies and layered them onto a Sea Glass cardstock panel. Before securing the layers, I tucked the cloud and the sun behind the mountain layer. Next, I arranged the die-cuts on my background panel, and before securing them, I positioned the sentiment in the lower right corner and stamped it with black ink. Now, using foam squares and/or liquid glue, I could attach the die-cuts, layering the greenery and tucking in branches and flowers before finally adding the toucan perched on a branch, taking in the view. My last step was to attach the card front to a top-fold card base.
Thank you so much for stopping by and reading about the tropical birthday card I created using multiple Spellbinders die sets. Stay cool and happy crafting!
