When life gives you lemons… reach for this month’s My Monthly Super Hero from Hero Arts and create something zesty! Like this zesty little number I made using the Citrus Frame and the Arched Tiles embossing folder, the first embossing folder to be included in a kit. For this card, I started with creating the frame. The die is pretty intricate, so I die-cut the base layer twice from Rainforest cardstock and stacked them for more stability and some added dimension. Then I die-cut all the components to layer onto the frame using plain white cardstock for the flowers and colored cardstocks for all the other elements. Before attaching the lemons and the lemon slices, I added subtle shading with a darker coordinating ink and then secured everything in place with glue.
Next, I created the background panel for the frame. First, I ran the embossing folder through my die-cut machine with a Sticky Note cardstock panel and then lightly grazed a white pigment ink pad across the embossed panel to highlight the pattern. I let the pigment ink dry for a few minutes and then attached the panel to a top-fold card base.
With the background completed, I moved on to arranging and securing the other elements of my card design. First, I attached the frame to the background with glue and then trimmed anything that overhung the edges with large shears. Next, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiments on Buttercup cardstock with white embossing powder. “When Life Gives You Lemons” is one long sentence, but it didn’t fit well in the space, so I snipped it apart and stacked the pieces on my card front. I attached the main sentiment with thin foam squares and added a lemon slice and small leaf between the sentiments.
