Spooky Salutations

Hi friends! I’m so glad you stopped by! Today I’m sharing a beautifully spooky Halloween card featuring two Lovely Layers sets from Honey Bee Stamps. I combined the Lovely Layers: Crow and the Lovely Layers: Sweetheart Roses for an unexpected combination that works perfectly for a Halloween card, especially when paired with an eerie but elegant floral background. To create the background panel, I first trimmed kraft woodgrain cardstock to 4.25 x 5.5 inches and took a Black Soot ink pad directly to the panel and brushed it across the woodgrain pattern. Then I blended Scorched Timber and more Black Soot along the edges. Next I stamped the floral image onto an ivory cardstock panel with black ink and darkened the edges the same way I did with the woodgrain panel. Finally, using the postage layers set, I die-cut the stamped panel with the largest center rectangle die and die-cut the postage-edged frame from black cardstock before layering them onto the woodgrain panel.

With the background panel completed, I moved on to die-cutting and assembling the other elements for my design. I started with colored cardstock for all the components, using Indigo and black cardstock for the crow and two shades of green for the leaves of the roses. For the roses themselves, I used black cardstock, and for the spiders, more Indigo cardstock. Before assembling the die-cuts, I blended Black Soot into the pieces I die-cut from the Indigo cardstock, letting some of the Indigo color come through, and Rustic Wilderness into the leaves and stems of the roses.

After assembling the die-cuts, I arranged them on my background panel and secured most of them with a liquid adhesive. In a few places I used thin foam squares to help keep things level, especially near the edges of the background panel. After securing everything in place, I trimmed some of the greenery that overhung the background panel and then attached it to a top-fold card base. Finally, I added two heat-embossed sentiments that I heat-embossed with cream embossing powder and die-cut with the coordinating dies.
