I created this spooky, cute Halloween shaker in soft muted colors for Day 4 using the new Halloween Mugs and Boo Word Shaker die sets. Let’s jump right into how this spooktacular card came together!

Hero Arts Unicorn White Pigment Ink
My first step was to create the harlequin pattern for the background. I started with a piece of Sprout cardstock trimmed to 4.25 x 5.5 inches. Then I stenciled the pattern using the Mini Checkers stencil, turning it approximately 90° before applying white pigment ink with a pouncer. Turning the stencil this way means it won’t cover the entire panel the first time, so I shifted the stencil around, lining up the pattern, until I had all the corners stenciled too. I let the pigment ink set up a bit and then lightly blended Lost Shadow and Black Soot on the edges of the panel.
Next, I got to work die-cutting the other elements of my design. First I die-cut a Stitched Arch from black cardstock and centered it on my stenciled background panel. Then I die-cut the components for the mug, the candies, and the spider web, bats, and spiders. Before assembling and securing the pieces with a liquid adhesive, I added shading to the white pieces with Lost Shadow ink and to the colored cardstock pieces with a darker coordinating ink color. I set these elements aside while I created the shaker.
To create the shaker, I die-cut the backer piece and the frame pieces from lavendar cardstock. I die-cut the frame pieces several times and stacked them together to be the walls of the shaker. I secured the layers with a liquid adhesive and sandwiched a piece of acetate die-cut with the same frame dies between the top two layers to be the window of the shaker. Then I filled the shaker with the clay shaker bits and finished by securing the backer piece in place.
Now it was time to assemble the card. First, I arranged the ghost mug and the Boo Shaker on my background panel, and when I was happy with their placement, I secured them with a liquid adhesive and a few thin foam squares at the bottom of the Boo Shaker to keep it level. Next, I tucked in some candies and attached the web in the corner before adding spiders, bats, and some clay embellishments. Then I heat-embossed a sentiment on a black banner with white embossing powder and secured it in place with foam squares. Finally, I attached my card front to a top-fold card base and added a few white gel pen highlights.
